Never Underestimate The Benefits Of The Playground Games

By Mattie MacDonald

The seemingly silly little group games that kids play in their early years, are the foundation of their physical, social and mental development and should never be underestimated.

Most people have learnt the basics of any number of official sports during their first preschool years. The importance of both physical and emotional skills that kids acquire through participating in the playground games at school should never be underestimated. When young kids are happily playing silly little childhood games such as hopscotch, marbles or ring-a-ring-a-rosy, they are not only gaining confidence and social skills, but also making a life-long investment in their own physical and mental health.

Skipping, jumping and various ballgames are part and parcel of school activities during lunch time breaks. These games are not only crucial for a child's physical fitness and muscle development, but also help them to interact and socialize with different people in a group situation. This is the time and place where the foundation is laid for acceptable social and moral behavior and respect for others. Inappropriate conduct such as selfishness, bullying and tantrums are seldom tolerated in a group situation and thus a culprit quickly learns to either play by the rules, or be shunned.

The playground can, however, also be a breeding ground for bullying and developing bad habits if there is not proper guidance and supervision by professional teachers or coaches. Kids can be brutal and cruel and the pack instinct is still very strong - they will do anything to be popular and part of the group. A kid who becomes the target of a bully or the ringleader, can suffer immense and lasting emotional (or even physical) trauma if the situation is not immediately addressed.

Young kids under four years of age should thus be constantly supervised. A wide variety of games are necessary to keep them interested since their attention span is still limited. Many preschools offer specialized training classes such as Playball where kids are introduced to most of the professional sport codes in a playful manner. By learning the correct techniques from young, the youngsters gain confidence and often develop a love for most sports. Mastering the art of kicking or throwing a ball boosts their self-esteem which is essential for becoming balanced, well-adjusted individuals. Children with a low self-esteem often become shy, unhappy loners or bullies

Group activities and team sport also help to combat social and health problems such as obesity, depression and poor academic performance. Happy, balanced children love to play in groups. Evidence is growing that physical activity and team sport might even increase a child's numeracy and literacy adeptness.

Being part of a team or a group, promotes confidence and a sense of belonging. Children learn about camaraderie, team spirit and respect for others. Many lifelong friendships are formed on a school playground or sport field. Group activities also teach kids leadership skills, persistence, problem solving and how to deal with disappointments when their team loses.

That silly little children's games may look like mere child's play, but it is the best educational tool in the world. It teaches young children to play with kids they don't necessarily like, to share and to respect others. Best of all, it gives kids the opportunity to be less selfish and to learn that things do not always go their way. Maybe, just maybe, the world would be a better place if there were playground games for adults too.

Arranging A Gathering With Different Pool Party Games For Kids And Some Friends

By Tiffany Gill

There are not many things that beat summer heat like owning your own swimming pool full of bright blue water under a shade tree in your back yard. Often children will go to great lengths to make friends and invite them to come over and swim in it. Generally the more challenging things to do is finding good pool party games for kids and their playmates to play that will maintain their interest and involvement while still having fun.

When planning one of these get togethers, you do not need to spend a lot of money and in many cases a lot of time. What is important is that it is well thought out with activities that involve all the children so no one will feel left out. Doing this will not only help ensure more play dates but will ensure your place as a popular parent with happy friendly children.

One of the most critical items for any party is the theme. This is the thought or idea you are incorporating into it. It could be something as simple as a tropical theme with flowers or as complex as a superhero theme where everyone dresses like their favorite hero. Let your children brainstorm to come up with different ideas that make them happy. The idea is to let children use their imaginations to make it work.

Decorations are always a must for the successful get together. They are what sets the mood and for children they will often help to build the excitement for the day to come. They should be simple, easy to clean up and hopefully inexpensive. A few streamers, some inflatable yard effects and a lei for guest when they arrive.

Games are typically the best part of the party experience. Parents and their children can easily construct some homemade paper chains which help cut off various areas. You could have areas for different games, around your pool, the eating area or a kids only or parents only area. Always be sure to set firm ground rules that should be followed so everybody has fun.

There are many good games for children to try. Find your coin is where someone drops a coin or another small item into the pool's water and watch who can find it first. The balloon toss is when children throw a water filled balloon to each other while using only a towel to catch it held between two children.

Another simple game is the hose limbo. This is when two kids hold a hose up while someone limbos under it. Whoever goes lower is the winner. A simple group game is marco-polo. One chosen player swims around the pool with closed eyes saying marco. The other children reply with polo. When a kid is touched he becomes the new marco person

Always wait at least 30 min after eating before jumping back in the water. Try working in a pinata some time at the end of the day. Every kid there will love that. Remember to have good supervision. Pool party games for kids are suppose to be fun, supervision makes sure they stay that way.

Inexpensive Pool Party Games For Kids

By Michelle Howe

Planning some pool party games for kids is an inexpensive way to keep active minds and bodies entertained. When it's hot outside, fun in the water is one of the best ways to avoid overheating. Most games can be planned at very little cost. Just about any game can be adapted for a small or large crowd.

An alternative spin on the classic pinata game can be great fun during a pool party. Instead of blindfolding the kids and having them attempt to smack at the pinata blindly, incorporate the pool in to the process. Ditch the blindfold and have the children attempt a swing while jumping into the water. Inside, toys that would float easily can be hidden. This way, nothing sinks to the bottom and no candy gets wet and ruined.

Squirt guns, swim goggles and water toys are all good ideas. A mixture of fun and useful items is the best choice. Candy could also be added as long as it is put in some type of water proof case first. Stores where all of their inventory is only $1 are a great place to stock up on all kinds of cheap items for this game.

The children themselves are a great place to get some ideas. Their creative minds tend to think of cheap trinkets that an adult wouldn't consider. It might be a surprise to find that they are so excited about the same itself that they are fine with he pinata being empty. While the prizes are great, the real fun is in breaking the pinata and splashing into the water.

Another fun game would be to toss a variety of prizes out into the middle of the pool. Make all of the kids wait around the edges until everything has been tossed in, then turn them loose. Just watching all of the chaos as they try to grab arm loads of prizes and swim at the same time can be quiet entertaining for the adults.

Relay style games are another good option for pool side games. Start by tying to ropes to one side and stretching them across to the other side to be tied. The kids can be placed in different teams at this point. Each team must have one person at a time cross the pool on something that floats, as they pull themselves along with the rope. The goal is to get each team member across and back first.

Life jackets could be used for the flotation devices in this game. They work well to keep everyone above the water and keep everyone safe at the same time. Children that don't know how to swim could also participate with this method. Regardless of how it's played, an adult should stay close to monitor the activity.

Regardless of the pool party games for kids that are chosen, safety should always be the first priority. Always choose activities that are age appropriate. Make sure every child is using proper safety equipment while around the water. Above all else, keep a watchful eye in case someone gets in trouble and help is needed immediately.
